Have a go at Outdoor Swimming for FREE at our Open Day (Sat 20th May)

We are teaming up with our friends at Rotherham Sailing Club and Rotherham Model Yacht Club to hold a joint Open Day at Harthill Reservoir.  If you are new to swimming in Open Water and want to give it a try come along and we will provide a buddy swimmer to assist you on your first swim.  You need to be able to swim at least 100m in order to take part.  (children aged 9 to 16 may also participate but must be accompanied by an adult).

You can also:

  • Try sailing with one of Rotherham Sailing Club’s experienced instructors
  • Learn about the clubs
  • Learn about the sailing courses we offer
  • Learn about the powerboat courses we offer
  • Just come and have a fun day by the water

Food will be available from Sunshine Pizza Oven as well as drinks and refreshments in the club house.

This is part of a larger national event ‘Push the Boat Out‘ organised by the Royal Yacht Association.

We hope you will join us to find out more on
Saturday 20th May from 12.30pm till 7pm.

There will be a normal swim at 5pm till 7pm for existing YOS members.

  1. Hi, when is the free open day? is it 13 or 20 May?

    • Hi Lucy
The open day is 20th May and is only free to people who are not already members of YOS. Existing members will still need to pay their £4 to swim on the day if they want to join the usual session which is starting at the later time of 5pm.
On 13th May we have our normal swim session at 2pm till 4pm (normal fees apply) or an extended swim session (1pm till 5pm) with timing (swim fee plus £5) for anyone wanting to do a longer swim such as channel qualifiers).
Push the Boat Out is a national event across all RYA venues and runs from 13th to 21st May so you may have seen notices about other events on the 13th too but they are likely to be sailing rather than swimming activities.
      Kind Regards

  2. Is there an age restriction for the sailing?

    • I don’t think so Vin but children may need to be accompanied by an adult while on the boat.

  3. Do people interested in the free open water swim need to have any specific kit?

    • Just a swimming costume and towel. We have wetsuits and swim caps you can borrow.

  4. Hi,
My daughter and I would like to come swimming at Harthill Reservoir.
We’re both strong swimmers and she’s an adult.
Would it be ok to turn up on Saturday the 8th July?
    Thanks, Matt and Natalie Wales.

    • Yes you can just come along and join as long as you are able to swim at least 100m.
Membership is £10 and renewals are every January. Once you are a member is it £4 per session to swim.
We look forward to seeing you and your daughter at YOS soon.
